Designing with air
Behind the historical façade of the half-timbered edifice in Essling’s Old Town is one of the most innovative and successful designer offices in Europe: the Corporate Design Department of global player Festo. The team under head designer Axel Thallemer has been showered with international awards for “pneumatic structures” for years. In 1999, for example, “fluidic muscle” was invented, a complicated plastic and network structure that works similar to a human muscle.
The film shows the possible applications of the fluidic muscle and presents Festo’s philosophy of breaking away from thinking structures of the Iron Age.
